The Dignity Initiative is committed to advancing the human rights of Dalits through a comprehensive approach that includes training, sensitization, and capacity building. We conduct both quantitative and qualitative research to document Dalit life and struggles, including the examination of laws related to caste.
Our organization actively campaigns on various human rights issues, focusing on law reforms, accountability, and addressing laws that adversely impact the Dalit community. We strive to shape and influence public opinion on these critical issues, working directly with victims to bring their realities to the forefront.
We also address humanitarian aid and relief from a caste perspective. The Dignity Initiative engages with UN Special Rapporteurs on human rights issues and prepares alternative reports for consideration by UN Treaty bodies, such as those related to the Universal Periodic Review. Our reports highlight the status of human rights situation of Dalits in Nepal and underscore the Nepal government’s obligations under international conventions.
As a UN ECOSOC-accredited organization, we actively participate in UN activities and facilitate the involvement of Dalit civil society organizations in global human rights discussions. Together, we aim to ensure that international standards are integrated into national frameworks to promote Dalit’s rights and dignity.
