In the context of social hierarchies and discrimination in South Asia, there has been a notable renaissance in the study of caste and caste-related issues. This shift in focus toward caste studies makes it imperative to understand the historical context and the impact that caste systems have, if at all, on dispersed communities across the world today. Researchers are examining the intersections of caste with race, class, gender, and migration.
Global discussions are generating calls for legal reforms, greater social inclusion, and the acknowledgment of caste-based discrimination as a human rights issue. As a result of the increased recognition of the lingering repercussions of historical injustices on society today, caste studies have become increasingly visible and call for the importance of standing together against bias and inequality.
The objective of this discussion is to provide a global picture of caste, showing the South Asian context in detail. The intervention intends to bring together scientists and the caste discrimination-exclusion interested parties – researchers, activists, and young scientists. Debate recordings are disseminated across multiple social media channels, as well as through the archival content recorded on our YouTube Channel.
