Business and Human Rights

The constitution of the country prohibits discrimination in both public and private spaces. The private sector does not have a reservation policy, nor do they have any policies to address caste-based discrimination or violence, which still occurs in the private sector. Therefore, the Dignity Initiative works to protect and promote Dalit human rights at the critical nexus between corporate operations and human rights obligations. The organization will also highlight the importance of corporate accountability in ensuring that business activities do not infringe upon the rights of individuals and communities.

Additionally, the organization will lobby the private sector to adopt policies that recognize caste-based practices and discrimination in the workplace, and provide remedies for fair treatment and justice. Furthermore, the organization will work to ensure the implementation of human rights due diligence, the role of corporate social responsibility programs, and the enforcement of international human rights standards, such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of how businesses can contribute to promoting human rights, inclusivity, and social justice in the country.
