
Dignity Initiative organized a national conference on “Caste in the Judiciary and Dalit’s Access to Justice,” which took place on May 5, 2024, in Kathmandu. Over 60 participants including 31 EDL beneficiaries attended this conference.
The program began with the keynote speech from the attorney general of Nepal honorable Din Mani Pokharel. It was also followed by the speech from the judge of the supreme court honorable Hari Prasad Phuyal. Both highlighted the need to traine more competent lawyers from Dalit community. They also mentioned that the structural reforms are required to increase Daliit’s access to justice.
The conference was organized into three distinct sessions: “Caste in the Court,” “Role of Law Enforcement Agencies in Combating Caste Biases and Prejudices,” and “Challenges Faced by Dalit Lawyers and the Way Forward.” This event provided students with valuable insights into the judiciary in Nepal.
