Dignity Initiative has been working to promote inclusive democracy in Nepal through the mechanisms of knowledge production. It seeks to generate knowledge and human know-how on various aspects of marginality, discrimination, prejudice and human rights of the Dalit community. Presently, while many organizations are working towards amelioration of the challenges faced by the Dalit community, they are limited by the non-availability of both empirical and theoretical knowledge-based inputs towards their work and interventions.
Dalits in Nepal have been under-studied and under-published. On the one hand, academic work carried out on Dalit issues are limited and on the other, publications on Dalit issues are not easily available in the public domain. On top of that, the critical mass continues to be ignorant of the very dominant narratives that marginalize them and have less capacity to offer counter/alternative ones. It is this lacunae that the Dignity Initiative intend to fill. We suports Dalit rights movement through data, evidences, narratives and policy insights.
One of the core pillars of Dignity Initiative’s work is the generation and dissemination of critical data, evidence, narratives, and policy insights for Dalit leaders and policymakers. This involves rigorous research on the contemporary socio-economic, political and cultural issues of the Dalit community, producing impactful reports and resources that illuminate their struggles for dignity and equality. Over the years, Dignity Initiative has conducted a wide range of studies that not only contribute to the academic understanding of Dalit issues but also influence public policy and advocacy efforts. By fostering collaborations with national and international actors, the organization ensures that its findings are not only relevant but also actionable.
