This is a data-driven age and the importance of data has increased significantly. However, marginalized communities like Dalit continue to suffer from data discrimination and censorship. It was found that the data especially of marginalized communities has always been manipulated, distorted and hidden by government to limit the redistribution of resources and opportunities.
The new constitution of Nepal has pledged many rights to Dalit. These commitments should be translated into policies, programs and budgetary allocations. In addition, Nepal is a party to numbers of international Human Rights instruments and mechanism, but it lacks appropriate data. This is often resulted into twisting of achievement and progress made by the government.
Therefore, Dignity Initiative conducts lobby and advocacy with the government to generate disaggregated data of Dalit. Dignity Initiative also presents Dalit related data using info-graphics to various audiences in order to maximize the potential for data-driven insights.
